I am from Chicago, as is this author. It took me about six months to gain the ability to play a guitar to my satisfaction. I have been writing for twenty years, without taking more than one writing course, which I did not finish in any case. As I work, I see slow changes with my abilities at the skill of writing. It becomes much easier sometimes. At those times, I can do the work quickly and efficiently, because I know what the word choices should be. As I edit. This took a long time. So, I assumed that was the story for this author, Lorraine Evanoff. I figured something similar happened. Transferring knowledge of language from spoken words into written words may seem like a small task. It may not look like that big of a deal but that small difference into saying everything with just words, no pauses, no body language, is like an impossible bridge/gulf. A few persons have a natural talent. For me, it has taken almost forever.
Dearest fellow Chicago native Jacob, thank you for your kind words of encouragement.
Writing is a wonderful passion. The best part is, all you need to do it is write and let the chips fall where they may. Believe me, I've worked long and hard at writing and I'm my WORST critic. It's almost as frustrating as playing golf. I'd love to read your work and I encourage you to post links to your published work here, or if you're unpublished, have the courage to post your writing here. That's how it starts. Substack is amazing. 💙
The unique thing about Substack is it starts with giving them your email. Then your subscribers get your email. So I don't know who has subscribed to who or whatnot. But, if you subscribe (I love picking up slavish supporters like that) then you are going to be notified every time I publish another one except in my case I have but little patience so I usually rewrite them for about two days AFTER I publish. Until I can master this problem I advise all my readers to wait two days before making a final judgement. Or you could of course just click on the jacob's Newsletter link. I do not have any good links. But, if you REALLY want the whole truth just start with my very first Substack posts when I had absolutely nothing to lose.
Yes, I always click "Subscribe" for interesting people and welcome their emails. I also "Follow" them. But I'm still a newbie and learning how it all works!
Thank you for your service to our country in terms of your Palmer Report stint throughout a terrible terrible period of time. All the PR writers and Stephen Colbert and Seth Myers kept us buoyed throughout those icky years of TFG and Covid. Now you're here on Substack! Like you, we've blasted out of Twitter to find a soft landing here where we can be ourselves and enjoy reads like yours! Looking forward to "settling in to our new neighborhood" and making some new (and old) acquaintances.
Thanks Marty & Patty! It's so cool you're fans of PR. He kept me sane too. As soon as I finish my new novel I plan on getting back to writing for PR just in time for the election cycle and trials. See you in the comments!💙🙏🏻
Yeah, big fans of Bill! It was disturbing to see the Wikipedia page that is riddled with untruths about PM. I am actually a Wikipedian and tried to push back on it. I even wrote a letter to Wikipedia CEO Maryana Iskander about it... No intention of contributing any more $$ to Wikipedia until they fix it. (Here's the link in case you didn't see it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palmer_Report)
Don't get me started about Wikipedia's libelous lies about Palmer Report! I've contacted the editors many times. Agreed about donating. I stopped doing so after that and I replied to their donation emails letting them know exactly why. Good on you Mark & Patty!!👏🏻💕
Girl, that crazy ass who now owns Twitter is a megalomaniac who bought the platform as a toy. Now that he isn't able to bend liberals to his will for being mean to him by pointing out his sexism and racism, he is attempting to hulk-smash it. That or he really is as dumb as he appears to look. The latter aspect is kinda scary, cuz if he is... (((shudder))). This man has billions. And he makes stupid decisions. Decisions that impact a lot of us. He also enjoys making folks squirm in the same way budding psychopaths enjoy burning ants with a magnifying glass. Dude is a full-on sociopath and a dumb one at that. A dumb sociopath with money--may Gawd have mercy on us all.
Beautifully said Alicia! But I believe it's worse than stupidity. Some of his financing was through the Saudis and other nefarious disrupters. It's worth billions to them to mess with messaging and concentrate power, don't you think? That's why it's been so fascinating to watch Twitter just keep going on and on as though it has a life of its own. But he's definitely a megalomaniac, sociopath, narcissist. Scary AF!
Thank you :-) I did wonder if he was doing this on purpose and if so, I am gonna try my best to keep Twitter on life support. Also, what I find amusing, as much as he tried to get conservative talking points trending on his stupid named X, they still flop at the same rate as before. What a tool! And not even a useful one.
Are you the author/creator of THE PALMER REPORT that has sustained my sanity and justified my uncontrollable anger, angst, and frustration all these years?
I think I will weep for the joy of life’s unexpected gifts.
It is you. I recognize that gorgeous, buttery, yellow cream wall of yours that I kept wanting to point out during our tea party and never had the chance.
I feel the same about you, gf. BTW, do you follow Backstory Serial and/or Ask E. Jean? I'm not sure if I've seen you on there? If not, please subscribe!
kdsherpa, I wanted to ask you too, do you follow Backstory Serial and/or Ask E. Jean? I'm not sure if I've seen you on there? If not, please subscribe!
Hi Lorraine, I was on Ask E. Jean for a couple of weeks, but I've ended up following so many people that I've had to cut back a bit. So many fabulous writers, thinkers, humorists, historians, on these different sites (in these stacks?) -- it's like a gigantic treasure chest, just waiting to be opened!
In fact, musk did a fantastic job. Twitter was never an inspiring thing in any way, rather a battlefield for far right, incel partizans with. USA-centered, universalist piece of shit. Most of tweets was (and still are) in best case a passive-agressive nonsense. Constant fights within communities that should be supportive for their members. Destroing Twitter was is a big gift for people. Now so many really cool platforms are growing, I cannot be more happy.
Those things are sneaky! Don't even worry about it. I thought you were referring to my piece. BTW, I think you can edit comments. Click the three dots ...
Lorraine! How in the world with your six jobs do you find time to write so an excellent Substack?????
Oh thank you E. Jean! I have no idea how I do it all. But I'm so happy I found Substack it's a great platform!
If you ever figure that out, please share!! :)
Ha ha! I think it has something to do with working like 16 hours a day😆
she's a writer
Always writing!

You are the kind of disrupter we need!💪🏻💙
You're wonderful, Lorraine! Now that I know it was you on the Palmer Report, I love you even more. Baker-Miller pink is an inspired idea!
Ha ha! Glad you like the pink idea. Love you too, Deb!
Lorraine?
Who are you?!?
Wait
JUST A HOT DAMN MINUTE!

Agreed, it opened up a lot of platforms and disrupted a lot of bad stuff.
*there shouldn't be 'with' in the second sentence.
He thanks for the proofreading! Always appreciated. I'm always writing very quickly.
I was thinking about my typos!
Oh, jeez, so many typos

I'm on mobile almost all the time, I guess it doesn't work here. Thank you for the reply!
Oh bummer!
Musk: "tasteless."
