Republicans are the party of White Supremacy, White Privilege, White Christian Nationalism. But are Republicans hateful bigots (yes), or are they just using the right-wing SCOTUS to retain power?
The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was won with blood, sweat, and tears. The Ku Klux Klan murdered activists, yet here we are literally back in Selma, Alabama, protesting. Granted, Democrats became complacent after the VRA and Roe v Wade were settled, and Republicans have fought to reverse those ever since.
But think about it. Republicans care more about staying in power than being accused of racial hate, even at the risk of ushering in a new Civil Rights era that could bring their own demise. Under a veil of racism, Republicans seek hegemony. Republicans are redrawing maps like a color-by-number book, but it’s a numbers-by-color power grab.
All three branches of government, plus the media, have been ruled by Republicans for 16 months and we have seen the damage. Republicans are an army of dehumanizing robots, a machine of destruction.
Then there’s the “Anti-Weaponization” fund. Choosing that specific amount, $1.776 billion, to troll Americans on the 250th anniversary of our independence, rather than a legitimate calculation of damages, is disqualifying. And the timing six months before the November 3rd midterm elections, offering advance payment to violent insurrectionists makes it murder-for-hire, a severe criminal offense.
It is also the clumsiest attempt to protect Trump so far. Trump’s $10 billion lawsuit for an outsourced IRS consultant releasing tax returns of over 400,000 people, including Trump’s, happened DURING his own first term. Trump realized the case was going to be tossed, so he instructed acting AG Todd Blanche to draft the settlement one day before the judge’s ruling.
Blanche inserted a sloppy one-page demand ceasing all IRS audits of the Trump family finances. (I’m surprised Blanche didn’t include a paragraph barring any further investigation into the Trump-Epstein files). But the unintended consequence of this brazen settlement is intensified scrutiny of what Trump must be hiding in those tax returns.
It’s all backfiring, including a bold move by the NAACP to fight racial redistricting in eight southern states by withholding college recruitment of black athletes. The Anti-Weaponization fund is already being challenged by the Capitol Police who have real standing. Just like Trump’s ballroom and the SAVE act scams, it will likely be blocked.
The next Democratic POTUS can reverse every Trump Executive Order. A majority Democratic Congress can reverse every Republican bullshit bill passed through reconciliation. Every dirty SCOTUS justice can be investigated, and the court reformed.
The Republican party has been reduced to a punchline. With Trump’s collapsing poll numbers, he looks like Russian plant trying to take down the Republican party. Keep mocking them. Keep challenging them. Keep dragging them…to court. And VOTE BLUE..
