What I did on my winter vacation.
Happy Friday, Substackers!
For me, one of the biggest surprises about Substack is getting to personally know so many great writers. On no other platform have I experienced that. Check my highly recommended Substacks for my favorites.
Since becoming an author, I have found the literary community to be incredibly supportive (unlike the Hollywood acting or screenwriting communities, for example).
A recent scandal about a successful author undermining fellow independent authors notwithstanding, (brought to my attention by the fierce Tara Dublin), for the most part, we authors lift each other up, and in turn lift up the literary world as a whole.
So, I just wanted to share a personal tweet I posted this week that got a decent amount of traction as a way to reveal a little more about myself.
Have a wonderful weekend, lovely Substack community!
“How fucked up is it that I’m on a trip of a lifetime in a South Pacific paradise, but can’t fully enjoy it, because I’m stressed about our country?
I grew up Republican, living under the poverty line, started working at 14, put myself through high school and college (yes, only one of 6 kids and 2 parents to grad HS and Uni), busted my ass for decades to make something resembling a life I wanted.
This is what the 1% autocracy whores want to take away from the working and middle classes to keep it all for themselves.
Fuck you, Republican voters.”

I hope you managed to enjoy your holiday in the end. It looks amazing.
However, your subtitle reminded me of the going back to school, and having to write the dreaded essay in our French lesson, “pendant les longues vacances …” I think I need to go and lie down for a while to recover.
You are a most honorable being. I love your style
