came across this.. (i send fine ‘editorial sporting life’ stuff to family & friends habitually’)

But this one has YOU written all over it .. but oddly .. not just about the baseball connection..

Please note the site itself and Steinbeck & his camper truck Rocinante ! That’s what drew me to the site during my wanderings & www peregrinations .. Isn’t that kinda ‘you’ .. yes, I really thinks so eh ? Travels With Lorraine ? (fab photos too ! Holy hell yes !)

http://www.thecamperbook.com/last-kid-baseball/

is the ‘ethic’ I hope to have embedded in ‘Diamond Walker’ & perhaps a ‘someday will come’

& the ‘Blue truck Tales’ across Canada will get wrote via ‘memoir stylings’ one some day soon !

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Wow! Thomas, you just blessed me. Reading this felt like coming home. Mary Tyler Moore, Bill Murray, "the last kid." What a life, Hamburger the Zen master. Even his "diamond" tattoo looks more like my beloved lotus flower to me. When an inspiration, heartwarming and uplifting. Real nitty gritty stuff. Thank you so much for sharing this. It's inspiring!

Thomas D’Arcy O’Donnell's avatar

.. the ‘sporting life’ fascinates me as always..

but don’t miss the finesse Ms Lorraine.. re John Steinbeck

There’s a sort of ‘chi town’ thang too .. outta my league for sure

I also note your photo by the beach volley court .. ? You play ?

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Oh yes, there is so much going on that piece I wanted to mention more but was heading out to a tee time!🏌🏼‍♀️ I'm a late starter at sports but I love many and play beach volleyball when I'm not at the golf course any chance I get. Yoga every morning. What's your sport?

Thomas D’Arcy O’Donnell's avatar

At 72 I’d love to ride Lake Louise again for sure - Whistler / Blackcomb - stopped skiing when my son chose boarding over skis

but any big mountain assignments with broadcast or film gear was skis of course.. no poles

hockey of course.. never played organized hockey myself but many pals were elite .. haha I’ve played with retired pros

I became an elite roller hockey player.. like my son ie shorts, hockey gloves, sun glasses, t shirt or no shirt in the lacrosse box - concrete

& taught people from beginner to advanced intermediate .. same re boarding

Basketball.. National Championship haha but first cut Olympic Tryouts.. a teammate made it though !

Pro Beach Volleyball .. we got creamed but I was really there as ‘the shooter’ when the Canadian Pro Tour was about to take shape

let’s just say.. I had the curse of wooden fingers.. too many miles on my wide receiver golden hands from mean old linebackers

cuz I kid you not.. I was the slowest player on any & every team

Track & Field was my ticket to almost all sports .. High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump.. did not have white man’s disease

Could touch the rim at eye level .. dunking was illegal though.. & I was always coached to play right handed by a clever high school coach

& hide the lefty Pete Maravich shit I taught myself in the barn cuz referees would call travelling back then just for being lefty

So as you may be surmisin.. walk in snorkelling with a waterproof is more my game now.. and my Love’s too

and why I’m workin so hard to migrate to Providentiales .. by creating a screenplay set there

That & two other Properties are my main raison d’être at ‘substack.. plus spotlighting other artists

I do hope there’s a market for serializing my ‘memoir stylings’.. got about 100 or more just need some polish

all are approx 3-5 minute reads or less.. & gots some short ‘military fiction’ & stuff involving wild creatures

I enjoy ‘instructing’.. the zen of helping others find the groove without suffering that first bad fall

Of course we gonna fall.. I’ve seen some was Spectacular .. hell, I toured Canada with The Canadian Women’s Cycling Team

and a Men’s Pro Team.. and seen & shot ‘stage diving’ in the mosh with Red Hot Chili Peppers encore - with tube socks on their dicks

If you ride horses.. you gonna get throwed .. & I also been bit by at least two horses .. thought never kicked

I’m a truly decent baseball player.. or was anyways haha.. but love to write & read about the game

I yarn about football a lot.. So love to yak with old Pros.. as much as I like yarnin with bartenders

No idea how we really found each other.. but my Love is a maniac sports junkie

She started the St Louis Blues ‘User Group’ .. is a totally ‘Lionized’ Detroit Lions diehard

plus a Steelers fan.. and Buccaneers too.. Tigers & Pirates .. She’s Mensa Level Fan.. a terrible curse eh !

So that’s my story.. re my sportin life.. & I’m sticking to it .. I golf every 10 or 20 years or so

but know enuff to putt ‘through the hole’ - no racquet sports.. but dabbled in most

I guess my sporting life should include guns .. Yes.. I know guns very very well

and write about them freely - Shotguns & Rifles.. but never ‘shot game’

Shot Trap & Skeet.. I don’t write about the Varmint Rifle farm & ranch stuff

aside from the confrontations as a punk farm kid with hunters & poachers

I had a big ornery horse that bit & kicked & a Browning .308 lever action saddle gun

Plenty of deer in our woodlots & after the corn was combined, astonishing flocks of geese & ducks

Hell .. we had people trying to steal our cedar rail fences

The ‘memoir stylings’ reflect a lot of this stuff - accordingly

So if you read my ‘stack - Pauly Wally & the Doodle .. you’ll learn about our farm & guns

& a lot about good manners & mrs Bacon’s baking skills ..

I’m a huge fan of anything ‘cajun’ & horses.. hogs and gators .. & moonshine

so I wrote the Wedding Notices & Funeral thang to scratch that bayou itch

But I’m just as stoked if you watch Dark Side Of The Lens

my all time fave Docu Film.. again, I prefer Short re Docu

It’s mebbe a 5 or six min slayer Docu..

Guaranteed.. you love it if you ain’t already found it..

Same re Message From The Gyre.. a MUST see approx 5 minutes

signing off.. enjoyed the writing of muchly ! 🏴‍☠️🦎

Wow, you have exceedingly well-rounded athletic skills, so wonderful. It's so nice you met your match too. Hubby is obsessive about watching sports. Just golf, scuba, a little pickle ball these days at our old age. We dove the wall in Provo, went to TCI a few times, really love it there, shopped for a home but it fell through. Too bad. Looking forward to reading your adventures!

You look way too young to be a grandmother, but what a reward with a beautiful, brand new baby.

A baby gives new hope. When the little boy sees his first butterfly and wonders over a humming bird, you will continue to see the world all anew through the gift your baby boy gives you, where all around us is new and full of wonder and color.

A baby gives us great gifts.

And congratulations to the pretty couple on tying the knot and standing on a pier with what looks to have been a breathtaking view of the lake.

A beautiful year. As a deeply spiritual person, you deserve to be able to immerse yourself in each moment.

My own mindset has its base in the Bhagavad-Gita -- introduced to me 55-years-ago by a wonderful woman, who was professor of English literature, when I was an impressionable college sophomore. I am widely read in German classical literature (bilingual at level C1 to C2 (European common reference)) and in the Upanishads, Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoeversky (all of his work, translated by Swetlana Geier -- her "Five Elephants"), but my spiritual base and my home is the Bhagavad Gita.

Which says Lorraine Evanoff deserves to love each moment. It speaks powerfully of you that so many loved ones gather about you.

Each one of your loved ones looks worthwhile and gifts you with a whole world in her- or himself.

Oh Armand, your words feel like a blessing. I'm looking into Bhagavad Gita and found writings here: https://www.holy-bhagavad-gita.org/index Is this the one?

Thank you for the encouragement to love each moment. It's so true, our tiny little human grandchildren open our eyes in their wonder and pureness of perspective.

The English language version of the incomparable Bhagavad-Gita is the highly poetic translation by the highly respected Sanskritologist, Barbara Stoler Miller, Professor, Bernard College, whom we lost way, way too young (1940-1993):

https://www.amazon.com/Bhagavad-Gita-Krishnas-Counsel-Time-War-ebook/dp/B000FC1MP0/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2XDVOJYCB7BKS&keywords=Barbara+Stoler+Miller&qid=1703626183&s=digital-text&sprefix=barbara+stoller+miller%2Cdigital-text%2C144&sr=1-1

The translation of Barbara Stoler Miller is quite poetic and beautiful, and Professor Stoler-Miller provides a sound introduction that helps with one's initial approach to the beautiful text.

Maybe I'll write more on my own Substack platform.
