Lorraine Evanoff: My biggest disappointment was in persons I had erroneously evaluated as traditionalists and institutionalists and responsible: Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, Chief Justice John Roberts.

Totally disillusioned.

Anyone who has read the Annals of Tacitus has long given up on moral courage in top leadership.

We seem to be in this on our own.

How can American's have elected the Orange-Bottomfeeder when Kamala Harris was one of the best Presidential candidates in 80 years?

Time to look carefully at paintings of Giorgio de Chirico to adjust myself to surreal vision.

At least the surrealism of the great artist feeds one's spirit.

What can be said of the American surrealism in the polity?

After a terrorist attack on New Year's in Las Vegas and in one of my favorite, most loved areas, the Vieux Carré in New Orleans, I face 2025 with sadness and a firm resolve to resist the predictable cruelty of leading officials against racial minorities.

I'm with you Armand. It's a heartbreaking start.

But I have only the worst expectations for the next two years.

Stay in the fight, send good positive messages of strength.

It's also heartbreaking that I'm already seeing the doomsday bullshit in these comments.

We have ZERO time for those who are so eager to concede in advance. I have ZERO respect for that stance. They are the reason trump was able to eke out a win, that and the idiot sexists. We will just do it without them.

Exceptionally well written Armand!!

Lorraine Evanoff and Patrick Daniels (Cromulent): Very kind, both of you.

We will fight.

Moreover, in this Federal system, state and city government are shields against the overreach of the incoming racist regime.

We must and will fight, and we will score successes.

So much more.

We are in this for the long haul and we are not going away!

And all the judges appointed under Biden.

Hold the line. Thank you Armand.

“Democrats are negotiators, mediators, peacekeepers.” As wrote Lorraine, with whom I have nothing but respect.

So, respectfully,I disagree with her and am more aligned with you. I’m not holding my breath for Dem leadership to exhibit profiles in courage.

I have changed my voter registration from Dem to independent. I do not want to be part of a BAND OF BROTHERS, that not only doesn’t stand up but votes in a new leader that is a 76-year old white male with cancer—promote those good ole boys—over AOC, a voice for those younger than 70.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Oh brother. Way to concede in advance.

Jim Sanders's avatar

I concede nothing. I’m standing up. It is my elected legislators not standing up.

Patrick Daniels aka Cromulent1's avatar

Get on the horn and call your senators and congressmen, demanding they follow the oath they have sworn to uphold! Trump has been found guilty of insurrection in Colorado State Supreme Court, he cannot by constitutional law be admitted to any political office Jim!!

Thanks for this Lorraine and all you do, I truly appreciate your words and hard work!!

I've done the same.

This comment reflects why the Republican Party is still winning. No matter how bad the Republican Party is, their voters are steadfastly loyal. With democrats, if the party is not performing according to the expectations of individual members, those members turn their back and walk away. They seem to have no stomach for getting in the muck and doing the hard work needed to make the party stronger. Fair weather voters is why fascists win.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Completely wrong assessment. It's still shocking to me how quickly everyone forgot that we won and have been in control since 2018, winning and over peformed in 2018, 2020, 2022, and yes even GAINED seats in the house in 2024 and limited the loss in the Senate even though we had twice as many seats up for election than Republicans. YOU are part of the reason Democrats believe these lies about being weak. We have been WINNING and you just fall for the GOP lies.

Additionally, you’re the one that said: “Oh brother. Way to concede in advance.”

How is that not aligned with my comment? In my mind you’re saying pretty much the same thing.

😳 let’s just have amnesia about 2016 and 2024 when an UNFIT reality tv star, admitted rapist got voted into the most powerful office in the land. Yup, nope! The Party of Fascism is now in control of all three branches of government, women have lost the right to agency over their own bodies and genocide is happening the world over thanks to the political games of the unfit monster in power from 2016 to 2020. Democrats are NOT weak, they just don’t want to be team players. Republicans are weak but they win because they stick together like a mass of congealed glue no matter what. Democrats piss and moan if they didn’t get a t crossed or an i dotted

It would be interesting to have a vote, just so the members of Congress explicitly record their decision. I am all for Trump being a success, but I am not optimistic. It is more about limiting damage than making progress. Come mid-terms the public can be reminded about who got Trump elected, again. 1 or 2 steps back and then forward again.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

That's all I ask, Stephen. We need to make calls to Schumer and other Dem reps and demand it. It needs to go ON RECORD.

Patrick Daniels aka Cromulent1's avatar

Yes please, excellent post Lorraine!!

Stephen Douglas Scotti: I assume "Trump being a success" refers to the economy.

My concern is cruelty towards minorities, particularly with racists Stephen Miller and Thomas Homan being in charge of the border.

Thomas Homan promised to renew the cruel kidnapping by border patrol of little babies and toddlers from the arms of their loving moms and interning them, where some suffer sexual abuse, and purposely setting up twisted databases to confuse the chain of custody of the kids, so they could not be traced back to their loving parents.

That I will oppose tooth and nail.

Support LULAC -- the League of United Latin American Citizens, founded 1929, which will cooperate with the ACLU, Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the NAACP in opposing Thomas Homan's obscene, cruel police practices.

My definition of success is in line with yours. That is the problem. Success for them is corporate success, shareholder profits, and a rising stock market, at the expense of a large swath of American Citizens.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Yes, for them success = total destruction.

I have to believe that one of the reasons the framers included impeachment in the Constitution was because they realized voters might actually choose a President who did not have the interests of the country in mind, but the interests of their party or the Robber Barons who supported their party.

If you put party before country and the American People there should be consequences. But that requires that Congress acknowledge a mistake. That will never happen.

This is very hopeful, and I enjoy your use of quotation marks. We need to keep pulling back the curtains on this excrescence. Thanks again for a powerful article, Lorraine!

So you're making disparaging comments without bothering to read the piece. I never said Dems won't certify. The piece says they need to bring to vote to the senate floor so it's on the record. Don't be disrespectful or I'll block you.
