The downward spiral is almost at a collapse point. It's entirely self-inflicted. Dems must prevail 💪🏼

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Agreed, they're on a a death spiral of their own doing.

Yes, libbies are the only adults in the room which is not fair in a two party system. The GOP needs to fall by the way side and allow a real party to emerge.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Agreed, I think we will be fine on our own until further notice😆

Exactly. And now that Day One Dictator is taking over the RNC in a huge purge (that is to say, rational Republicans have *allowed* themselves to be run out of town by this antebellum bunch of racist bigots), it is going to happen even faster. In a two party system, we actually need one other party, but the current one isn't a party of rational citizens; so, either it will have to be wrested back from anyone left standing who hasn't been sucked into the cult, or a new party will have to rise up. Meanwhile, the blue will guard the gates of liberty and tear down the 45 year march to the largest income inequality and corruption by the 1% since the 20s and 30s.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Yes, Kate, I'm really in a quandary what another party would look like. They've been such a mess since Nixon, pure greedy and power mongers. Fake fiscal conservatism, what would some balance be?

Kate Morgan Reade's avatar

I never thought I'd miss the likes of Nixon, seriously! Today makes Watergate look like a kindergarten oopsie by comparison. These freakin' religious zealots scare the bejeezus out of me. I keep hoping that this is an example of a fatally wounded alligator thrashing the hardest right before it dies. Here's a quick look back pre-Reagan, but I wasn't old enough to pay attention or vote back then:

Thanks but no thanks. Growing up Republican, I was forced to sit and watch Nixon resign in disgrace and I voted for Reagan which I dearly regret. They're all cheaters and crooks. They just are more and more comfortable with doing it out in the open now.

I've wondered about a multi-party system here. Does that work well in France? I'm ready for a Social Democratic Party, been saying the Scandinavian countries have had that going on for some time. I don't know enough about the realities and how we would start something like pluralism. Just tossing out ideas I've considered.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

In France they have similar Left Right party structure to the USA. If the party in power in the Senate is different that that of the Presidency, they call it "cohabitation" and it basically usually means a similar stalemate to ours. My understanding is the countries with a bunch of coalitions are a lot more complicated. But it does seem to help keep a bit more balance against extremists.

Kate Morgan Reade's avatar

Interesting, thank you. It's definitely a messy thing, government by, of, and for the people, but as Winston Churchill quipped (paraphrasing here) It's the worst system, except for all the rest. Sigh.

The thing is, in such an Unconstitutional, imposed, two party system, once either party collapses we will, as history has repeatedly shown, get chaos.

Not in a fun way either.

The two party system was imposed,

Without the thesis antithesis dynamic of Democrats and Republicans, who will the party oppose?

Who will the disenfranchised embrace?

Will we get a uniparty?

I think Hitler, Mao, Stalin etc show the issues with uniparty.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Abolishing the EC would help.

Donn Harper Jr.'s avatar

How?

By stripping rural areas of equal representation?

If the electoral college were abolished then only a handful of highly populated regions would completely control all the rest.

What would you replace it with?

A direct democracy does not protect a minority from a tyranny of the majority.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

So what do you want? You said the two party system is unconstitutional but it exists because of the EC.

Are you just trolling?

Donn Harper Jr.'s avatar

First, the Electoral college did not create the two party system.

The two party system was imposed via two factors, illegal congressional district apportionment, ie, Gerrymandering, and a direct collusion between Democrat and Republican party operatives to exclude other parties access .

I would like to see Constitutional restraints upheld.

Which by itself would reverse the unconstitutional two party system.

In fact, the Constitution makes no allowances for ANY political party period.

The horrific truth is, nothing happens without the cooperation of the controlled opposition.

No Democrat initiative can pass without Republicans support and no Republican initiative can pass without Democrat support.

They actively work together,

They have the same corporate contributor's. They collude to exclude any other political parties.

So.

Eliminate Democrat and Republican control of the electoral process.

Prosecute those that try and restrict ballot access.

Open up the process to actual dissent, debate and discussion instead of the false system we have had imposed upon us.

Neither Democrat or Republican party like the Constitution because the Constitution restricts their power.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Okay so you basically are just complaining and not doing anything about anything.

You're either a progressive or a libertarian who is pissed you can't get your extremists in power.

Personally, I would be fine with the end of the Republican party and have a Democratic and Progressive party.

Donn Harper Jr.'s avatar

Umm.

While I have libertarian leanings, I belong to no party.

As for doing nothing...

I am active in my community.

Volunteer EMT,

I served my country

And love my country, the people.

Corporate power mongers no, not so much.

I work on a local level for third party ballot access.

And,

If a belief in the Constitution is extremist,

Then, guilty.

No , I am not just bitching.

The establishment is not interested in anything other than the acquisition of power.

I have no power to confront that.

I can, confront those things right before me.

Tell me,

When did you do more than talk?

Do you get off the high horse and help your neighbor? Volunteer your time, skills, blood, sweat?

Most pundits prefer the appearance, rather than the actual substance.

Regardless of where you are, there are many ways that you canake a difference. Many that need help. Many You could, if you chose to.

I am 100% prepared to be jailed under Trump.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

You mean you expect to be, right? I'm prepared to fight against the GOP. I'm prepared for the Trump and the GOP to go down.

SJStone's avatar

I'm expecting them to crash and burn, but I'm thinking of all scenarios. We all thought Hillary was going to win.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Hillary did win. He was installed through manipulation of the EC.

It just sounded like you were "prepared" to be locked up by the right if somehow he got reinstalled, which sounds like you'd go willingly, which I highly doubt💪🏻💙

Yes I saw Cali had a very low voter turn out. Disappointing. Biden won overwhelmingly but there were a lot of important down ballot races. Grrr.
