Why Iran?
By Lorraine Evanoff, March 6, 2026 – 470 Words
The consensus on why Trump entered an illegal unprovoked War of Choice with Iran is because Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told him to. But why did Netanyahu want to attack Iran so badly?
Netanyahu has been claiming Iran is an imminent nuclear threat since 1986. U.S. Senator Tom Cotton just claimed that Iran has been an imminent threat to the United States for 47 years. Do 40 or 47 years qualify as imminent? No.
The U.S. has controlled much of Iran’s oil resources since 1953, when U.S. intelligence (CIA Operation Ajax), and British Intelligence (Operation Boot), orchestrated a coup d’état to overthrow democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh to bolster Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and protect western oil interests.
The Trump regime has been stumbling to explain why the U.S. got into this war, first claiming that Iran would retaliate against the U.S. if Israel attacked them. Then the Trump regime declared it a religious war, aka a Jihad, with Trump being called upon by Jesus. Now they’re saying Americans just need to suck it up and pay more for gas to support Trump’s war.
But even MAGAs Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, and Eric Prince are against it. Carlson told Trump to “stand up to Israel, a country of 9 million people with no resources.” So, is Netanyahu trying to take control of Iran to expand Israeli territory and resources?
I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but why did the George W. Bush administration ignore dire warnings from U.S. Intelligence about an imminent terrorist attack before September 11, 2001? Why did Netanyahu ignore dire Israeli Intelligence warnings about the Hamas terrorist attack before October 7, 2023?
My conclusion: Trump and Netanyahu are trying to stay out of jail and in power. Prolonged war is the oldest trick in the autocratic playbook. G.W. Bush and Republicans planned the Iraq war carefully to take advantage of the 9-11 terrorist attacks making G.W. a two-term president.
Netanyahu is up for re-election in October 2026. Control of the U.S. Congress is up for grabs in November 2026. But Netanyahu and Trump are desperate and sloppy. Trump repeatedly demanded Israel’s president Isaac Herzog pardon Netanyahu so he “wouldn’t be distracted from the war in Iran.” Republicans have tried everything to disrupt the upcoming midterm elections. But the blue tidal wave is overwhelming them. It will get more insane and I rule nothing out from these Republican monsters.
But why Iran? When asked why he’s running for Texas U.S. Senator, James Talerico said, “Why [I ran]? There’s something broken in America…because the most powerful people in the world want it that way. We will not be conquered. It’s time to start flipping tables.”
It’s time to keep flipping seats blue. Check your voter registration and VOTE BLUE!

Lorraine Evanoff: Whether George W. Bush or Donald Trump, the President misuses the military.
Under classical, realistic international relations, a nation plans a unified, national, comprehensive five year strategy for: (1) Survival of the Democratic Institutions with balance and separation of powers and due process of law; (2) Protection of its citizens and residents; (3) Health and welfare of its citizens and residence; (4) Conservation of resources; (5) Boosting of interstate commerce; (6) Achievement of needs of citizens and resources by balancing scarce resources with growing needs of the people; (7) Expansion of foreign commerce and the nation's soft power; (8) Formation and preservation of alliances that boost the nation's democratic ideals and joint power; (9) Planning and allocating of sufficient naval and military forces to dominate and have exclusive control of seas and air to protect international commerce and to promote and PROJECT our national interests; (10) Using soft, not naval or military power, except in number (9), above.
Instead, a cycle of Presidents have squandered naval and military forces to fell Saddam Hussein, who was oppressive, but who was a counterbalance to Iran.
The Bush administrators of Iraq seemed, with the exception of General David Petraeus, to have little concept of the prevailing cultural values of Iraq.
As a result, we rid the country of any counter-Iranian interests.
Much (maybe a third or more) of Iraq is Shia and is religiously and culturally virtually ONE with Iran.
In elimination of countervailing force in Iraq, Bush STRENGTHENED Iran. It was a zero sum game and Bush lost it for us.
Now Trump bombards the bejesus out of Teheran and says, like Bush flying upon the aircraft carrier, "Mission accomplished."
According to Trump, we will bombard and maybe more.
But now, says Trump, is the best chance for Iranians to arise.
I do believe Israel (and the US) have bombed several layers of the Government and their successors in Teheran. Yes, I do.
But for the woman and man on the street, the Iranian Republican Army and Guards are mighty and packed with automatic weaponry. The Guard and army are ruthless.
There is no possibility for the woman or man in Teheran to stand up and start a 1776 Revolution. To believe that is to believe a pipe dream or to be on an acid trip.
The woman or man uprising in Teheran faces overwhelming DEADLY force of the Government, no matter how many layers we bomb over.
Trump mutters that he has bombed and the Iranians should just rise up.
That is the most absurd claim ever.
That is literally impossible.
And of course, for bombing Teheran, Trump should get his Nobel Prize.
Oh, my.
