Family is weird. It’s dysfunctional. It’s loving. It’s supportive. It’s infuriating.
Triggers abound.
But as we get older, we realize that
what made us weird is now our super power.
Over the years, I’ve learned that my mom, who was always kind of source of embarrassment for me, is a Mother Like No Other. So much so that I made a documentary.
This movie came about after a Halloween party I threw for the amazing dance company, Ate9, that I’ve been running as CFO for many years.
I invited my mom and my brother, knowing they would enjoy belting out some songs. We hired musicians and the dancers performed.
After all the scheduled performances, we sat around the campfire and my mom and brother borrowed the musicians’ guitars and my mom sang St. Louis Blues.
My dear friend Alexander Gruszynski, an amazing Hollywood director and cinematographer who was there, said we should make a short movie about my mom, Jude Baker.
It’s been almost eight years, and we barely finished in time for this Mother’s Day. The last edit will be the title, but I’m proud of the result.
It’s honest, gritty, mortifying. If you can look past the low budget but earnest effort, you’ll find heart, passion, creativity, cool locations. Best of all, you’ll hear my mom belt out some songs.
I invite you to share some wacky, weird, wonderful family stories and photos in the comments and Notes. Family is the magic of life, the Salt of the Earth.
🌸 HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY 🌸
to all the unconventional, the traditional, the steps, the loving moms.💕
Gifts don’t get much better than that. Happy Mother’s Day!
You are very blessed!
