As someone who protested the Vietnam War in high school and college, I can say that many of us may not have known the history of Southeast Asia, the geopolitical significance, etc. What we did know was that innocent people were being slaughtered by our government in the name of fighting communism and we wanted it to stop.
Similarly, college protestors today are horrified at the tens of thousands of innocent civilians - mostly women and children - who have been killed by the IDF. They know our government is supporting that slaughter through financial aid, weapon sales and more, and they - and many more Americans - want it to stop.
Do they know the complicated history of the Middle East, do they feel similar grief about the Israeli dead and hostages? Do they speak about that? I don't know. Do they call on Hamas to agree to a ceasefire? Perhaps not, but that doesn't negate their passion about the humanitarian tragedy that is occurring.
Let's not let the right wing media and politicians control the narrative here. They are very happy to have a distraction in the news, and they - the supporters of white supremacy and the Great Replacement theory - are lying hypocrites when they pretend to be against antisemitism.

In 2023, the SCOTUS overruled heavy gerrymandered maps in two states based on racism, which will give us back 3-4 seats lost in 2022 in NY and also a couple other states. The GOP has lost every election since Nov 8, 2016. Democrats have outperformed all elections, there was no "red wave" in 2022, the latest example was a huge out performance in the NY state senate race.

I recently finished reading 'The Undertow: Scenes From A Slow Civil War' by Jeff Sharlet. He's a fearless and incisive writer on religion and politics, and exploring what he calls The Trumpocene he somehow manages to get people to open up and tell him exactly how they feel and think. It's compelling and depressing, and I think necessary for people to read to grasp the danger we're in.
You carry the logic very well, and I LOVED reading this line:

I’m personally independent, but I’m glad Democrats finally understand the role they play in enabling Trump via complaining and giving him publicity. A lot could happen between now and November to make Trump even less electable than he already is, a conviction being the most likely possibility. When he loses in 2024, I hope the walls finally close in on him where we’ll never have to listen to or hear about him and we’ll be able to get closer to having real policy conversations again.

I’m personally independent, but I’m glad Democrats finally understand the role they play in enabling Trump via complaining and giving him publicity. A lot could happen between now and November to make Trump even less electable than he already is, a conviction being the most likely possibility. When he loses in 2024, I hope the walls finally close in on him where we’ll never have to listen to or hear about him and we’ll be able to get closer to having real policy conversations again.

I know your joking, but for the record, while it's true a shocking percentage of high-level execs are sociopaths, most want to do their job well. Most politicians want to make a difference in the world and help others (except Republicans of course😉).

While I agree that some truly evil forces on the right have been working hard for the past few decades to damage our democracy (with the help of Putin and other enemies), I try to avoid using words of doom and gloom, because it can instill hopelessness and demoralize voters.
Rather, I like to point out that we have defeated them in every election since Nov 8, 2016, and that the majority of us has stepped up to educate ourselves on how our system works and learn how Republicans were able to take advantage of weaknesses. In the end our efforts will have strengthened our democracy.
All the Democrats deserve honorary degrees in PoliSci and Civics!
Anyway, keep up the good fight, we got this. Vote BLUE!

And the impossibility of a Trump win, just as it seems, meantime the shrill groans and waving arms of dread that Trump will likely take over, a MAGA win (the bogeyman), that has fair-minded people in knots, instead of thinking clearly, stridently, proactive about important issues, towards a future without MAGA chaos—fear sown and cultivated by foreign interlopers. Trump’s perception on meeting consequences for rudderless gleeful antics. Yours is spot-on, illuminating textbook manipulation that we suspect, but are given to believe, gaslighted about what is “actually going on”. You go!
