It's extremely difficult to understand what goes on in his head (for which I am somewhat glad, because to fully comprehend sociopathic narcissism, one may have to embrace of degree of insanity), but dementia aside, I believe we are watching the tipping point of his mental breakdown. And considering the man has NEVER been held accountable for ANYTHING in his entire privileged life, him not having complete and absolute control of the legal process - the judge, witnesses, and jury in particular - may have finally broken his fantasy of being untouchable. Hence, he's perplexed at the chill of a reality he has never experienced.

That said, I hope the motherfucker has a complete breakdown in court, is thrown in jail or an institution, and we can all move on. I do not usually wish bad tidings upon anyone, but he has not a single redeeming feature and is the most debased and disgusting man I may ever have encountered.

So, to summarise, Fuck Trump.

I hope this fucking breaks him. Just as he has broken such a vast number of people in the past. And then simply shrugged and walked away.

Beautifully said Stark! Agreed, he is such a self-absorbed narcissist he doesn't even realize when his own body is protesting against him with chills.

I too will be happy to see him completely succumb to whatever fate he has brought on himself. Fuck tRump indeed!

This whole spectacle is completely beyond my reckoning. The man was tried and convicted of rape. And right there, with no prevarication whatsoever, I find him utterly abhorrent. He disgusts me to the very core of my being.

And yet. . . here we are . . . with him running for president.

With people clapping and cheering him.

And I ask myself, "What the fuck is wrong with these people?"

Seriously, what the fuck is going on, people? Anyone else would be in jail by now.

And any previous contemplation I had for the collective human intellect has been thrown in the bin. There are a LOT of VERY stupid people on this planet, and the more I learn, the further I distance myself from the herd... (not that they'll miss me, the fuckers 😂😂😂)

It's truly mind boggling. It's a cult like figure. Coupled with the craven GOP love taking advantage of this situation for positioning themselves down the road. Just like Leonard Leo's long term plan to take over SCOTUS. We have to keep an eye on the big picture.

We have to stay focused and be ready for everything. And VOTE.

Yep. It's been said often, but even watching from afar, it's obvious this election will make or break the country. His re-election will ostensibly end democracy. And that alone should scare the shit outta anyone with more than three functioning brain cells (which obviously excludes the MAGA cultists). And as to SCOTUS, well, it worked for the Mafia, so . . .

As someone who protested the Vietnam War in high school and college, I can say that many of us may not have known the history of Southeast Asia, the geopolitical significance, etc. What we did know was that innocent people were being slaughtered by our government in the name of fighting communism and we wanted it to stop.

Similarly, college protestors today are horrified at the tens of thousands of innocent civilians - mostly women and children - who have been killed by the IDF. They know our government is supporting that slaughter through financial aid, weapon sales and more, and they - and many more Americans - want it to stop.

Do they know the complicated history of the Middle East, do they feel similar grief about the Israeli dead and hostages? Do they speak about that? I don't know. Do they call on Hamas to agree to a ceasefire? Perhaps not, but that doesn't negate their passion about the humanitarian tragedy that is occurring.

Let's not let the right wing media and politicians control the narrative here. They are very happy to have a distraction in the news, and they - the supporters of white supremacy and the Great Replacement theory - are lying hypocrites when they pretend to be against antisemitism.

Lisa, he lost the popular vote in 2020 by 7 million votes and the EC by 74.

In 2023, the SCOTUS overruled heavy gerrymandered maps in two states based on racism, which will give us back 3-4 seats lost in 2022 in NY and also a couple other states. The GOP has lost every election since Nov 8, 2016. Democrats have outperformed all elections, there was no "red wave" in 2022, the latest example was a huge out performance in the NY state senate race.

In the UK the Tories successfully painted Jeremy Corbyn and Labour as the party of antisemitism, and it stuck.

We have to repeat again and again, support for Israel does not mean support for Netanyahu, and support for Palestinians does not mean support for Hamas. The leadership on both sides is engaged in evil.

And talking of evil, tfg is old, he's alone, and he has no control over his environment. Of course he's cold. The winds are howling.

Expand full comment

Oh it's so frustrating to see UK remain under right-leaning leadership. Thanks for clarifying how that's been possible. I'm not an expert on UK politics, but I think Labour and Labour-Left have not been able to muster a strong Prime Minister candidate in forever. But didn't the mayor of London just get re-elected and he's left-leaning?

Re Netanyahu and Hamas, exactly correct. And it seems it would be so easy to make these protesters understand that. And yet, they're being mislead by completely illogical thinking.

Expand full comment

Yes, Sadiq Khan was elected Mayor for the third time. He's a good and well-liked mayor. In local elections across the country this last Thursday the Tories had their worst showing in 40 years, which is encouraging. But then not even the US has suffered such a severe self-inflicted wound as Brexit in 2016, not yet at any rate; at least back then Trump was reversible.

I recently finished reading 'The Undertow: Scenes From A Slow Civil War' by Jeff Sharlet. He's a fearless and incisive writer on religion and politics, and exploring what he calls The Trumpocene he somehow manages to get people to open up and tell him exactly how they feel and think. It's compelling and depressing, and I think necessary for people to read to grasp the danger we're in.

I think Biden has a good chance of winning the popular vote. But I’m still concerned with the Electoral College.

I want someone to do an investigation into the outsiders at these college protests. I’m worried we don’t get concrete confirmation about who they are or with until after the election.

Netanyahu is Israel’s Trump, and it’s been interesting (and concerning) to see how the world has been reacting to him. What will we see if Republicans win and Americans start having concentration camps built in their back yards to round up our brown, Jewish, atheist, anti-Christian Nationalist citizens?

I think Trump is cold because he’s old, too. My dad is just a couple years older and wears a scarf all year round. But the chills started several years ago.

Trump an unhealthy, old man.

But while we wait for his demise, know that Republicans are likely already figuring out who to prop up as their next leader.

This did not start with Trump and will not end with Trump.

It started with Republicans.

If they learned anything over the last 9 years, Republicans will find someone to replace him who knows how to behave in public to make their agenda sound palatable to the masses (see Glenn Youngkin, the fascist in fleece of Virginia. Smooth talker, but aligns with MAGA). I’m worried that is what they will land on for Trump’s VP pick.

THAT scares me.

Expand full comment

Agreed on most, Emma, but there's no way for him to win the EC. He's in worse shape than 2020 which he lost by 7 million and soundly lost the EC.

The GOP will try more fake EC scams but with all their indictments for the last time they did it, everyone knows their process so they've lost the crucial element of surprise.

Also agreed, I truly hope these protest organizers are under investigation. Justice is silent but that just makes it more effective. We won't know until it is made public through filings and indictments. It's going to all keep coming out now leading up to the elections, which will just damage the GOP's chances even more.

My biggest concern is how the GOP is pushing itself incrementally further and further right even knowing they have no chance of winning the 2024 elections, especially since Dobbs. But like Leonard Leo stealing SCOTUS, they're playing the long game, meaning they're positioning themselves to be even further extreme right for the next opportunities.

We will have to vote them out this year, fix a lot of their mess while we can, and be ready for their next big push.

Expand full comment

I get that but I wonder if anyone can replace the darling of fascism? He has a strange entertainment value to the cult and I wonder if there is another lost and demented soul who can say and do the unspeakable to their satisfaction. Tfg is a cartoon villain. He could be Dr. Evil’s brother. I could imagine trump saying he was going to put lasers on sharks’ heads to kill his enemies. Even his physical appearance is like nothing we’ve ever seen. This is why we desperately need a robust, independent, and well-trained press. Things would never have gotten this bad if news organizations were doing their jobs. It's been left mostly to individuals (please note, I am NOT saying ALL journalists or all orgs are falling down on the job). This has to stop. Democracy depends not only on accurate and timely news at all levels (local, state, and national) but on a well-educated and informed citizenry as well. Which is another reason I am so hell bent on improving our public school system. IMHO, one of the reasons for the MAGA phenomenon is that people have not been taught critical thinking skills and are therefore ignorant and susceptible to emotional indoctrination. But that's another topic for another day. Thank you for being one of those independent, well-trained, and informed individuals, Lorraine.

Expand full comment

You are 100% correct, Jena. The GOP has actively degraded our public education system starting with Reagan. Restoring it needs to be a top priority, thank you for taking on this challenge.

Regarding the press. it seems the onset of social media creating Internet pundits has been a double-edged sword. This "5th Estate" has given us many more important voices while causing MSM to stoop to truly deplorable desperate measures for clicks and profits.

It is now up to us keep them honest.

Your idea of independent well-trained press is brilliant! I've been saying we all deserve honorary degrees in PoliSci and Civics for stepping up to do the research needed to learn how our complicated system really works in order to save it.

I also suffer from "anxiety shivers" - the last time was in court when the judge finally handed me my divorce papers. Enough about that except to say that the condition does exist.

Okay - the elephant in the room? Trump has DEMENTIA. Dementia-ridden patients often complain of the cold, even when no one else does as you have mentioned. My BIL is in middle stages of this disease and that is the FIRST thing out of his mouth as soon as he sits down on the couch for any length of time. When he's moving around, he's fine.

I first noticed Trump's cognitive decline in 2016 just before the election when I started watching his campaign BS on tv. You'll have to forgive me for arriving late to the party because I'm Canadian, not American. But, a few of his speeches got me wondering so I larked over to YouTube and ran a search on very early interviews (let's say the 80's) he did with various media peeps. The difference in his speech patterns, his elocution, his thought process (even the ability to complete a full thought before skipping to an unrelated subject) was alarming. This guy used to be able to speak, to project his ideas (even if they were bullshit in the 80's). He could carry the narrative and bedazzle those who were subject to the fake stars in his eyes. I can't speak for the TV show where he fired people (I forget the name because I have never watched reality TV), but I assume he was still cognitively A-OK at that point.

He was getting pretty bad at the end of his term, but what I find VERY conclusive is the decline from the beginning of 2021 until now. The guy is absolutely out to lunch. He can't form a sentence and suffers from from a form of aphasia where he invents words, mispronounces them and also useS existing vocab completely out of context. He rambles through his speeches, gets completely off-topic, throws in a few lies and then recedes to the paranoia piece where he truly believes that he is a victim. My BIL does the exact same thing with various conversations.

I'm gonna be fair here and exclude Trump's meanderings through speech content where he mistakes Biden for Obama (hell, I'm 64 and I'm already doing shit like that) because those are NORMAL SENIOR MOMENTS that have nothing to do with one's executive function or the ability to lead a country. It's all the other stuff that has me worried.

Okay, so my BIL is also a flaming narcissist. Sad, but true. And when you suffer from THAT much paranoia your whole life and spend your every waking moment fighting non-existent demons and over-thinking inconsequential situations (as both Trump and my BIL do), it eventually messes with the senior brain. There is genetic evidence in the Trump family (as well as my BIL's) that points to dementia. He's got it, he's somehow managed to keep his hands on the reins (that's a whole other convo), but this guy is crazier than Kim Jong Un right now.

To summarize, he's a narcissist, he suffers from paranoia and now he's got dementia and he's failing fast. Even if he wins another day and squats in the WH again, I am comfortable in stating that he won't make it through an entire term. And I'm not sure that this is relevant, because there are about 50 other high-ranking lieutenants in his cabal who will gleefully handle him, execute policy and never let the world know that he's lost his shit.

Thank you for your perspective JBO. Agreed, several experts have also pointed out Trump has DEMENTIA and Dementia-ridden patients often complain of the cold, even when no one else does as you have mentioned. But it seemed no one else pointed out him possibly having shivers.

May I add that you are a very strong person being able to watch him speak. It raises my blood pressure so badly that I cannot listen to his voice, if there's a video I watch it on silent, usually there are subtitles. So it is very helpful to get your impressions on his decline over the years.

Regarding him ever getting near the WH again, nope. Not gonna happen. He lost by 7 million popular vote and 74 EC last time and he's in a way worse position now.

Anyway thank you for your support from the north. We appreciate it!💙🙏🏻

Who knows? I'm just saying he'd never make it through a term without crashing. As for being "strong", I confess I canceled cable tv and that kind of news in 2018 because I thought I was gonna have a breakdown.

I'll tell you something else... I'll bet my lunch money Putin never had "dementia" on his bingo card when he dreamed all this nonsense up.

You'll always have my support from "the north" because we're dealing with the exact same thing here. The Koch cuckoos (only one of them now) have zealously funded The Fraser Institute - a right-wing think tank in British Columbia, for many years. One of them is down and dirty with the Heritage Foundation and Project 2025, and we all know that when the US sneezes, Canada catches a cold.

I know he won't. It's not mathematically possible.

Re TV, same here, I haven't watched MSM or any kind of TV news since Nov 8, 2016. They are a waste of brain cells.

Good observation about Putin. But he does think long term and covered all his bases, hence all his plants throughout the GOP, complete infestation, keeping them all in line.

Canada gives me hope, you've had to deal with a lot of right wing crazies and you do it with style and grace🙏🏻💙

Yeah, he was playing the long game and got his playbook from Stalin, who warned us all very well back in the day. I'm still betting he wasn't thinking he was going to have a mentally ill puppet trying to run the US though.

I am heartened by your words. May they reach our God's ear.

Interesting take.

IMO, Putin was thrilled to have a deranged maniac running the US for maximum damage.

But as I always say, this is NOT Russia. We don't just sit back and let Czars and oligarchs take away our freedoms for their own profits. We fight our asses off.

And I say that as a genetically Russian American who has studied Russian literature all my life and written three novels about it.

Stay strong. We got this. 💪🏻💙

I think Putin was VERY thrilled to be manipulating the strings of a lunatic. I just have a weird feeling that he thought he was in control. Now nobody knows what is going to come out of Trump's mouth or what he is going to do. If it were a movie, it would be funny.
