Lorraine Evanoff: The most offensive feature of the current GOP its race-baiting on a scale that begets racial violence, as in Ohio, with obscene neo-fascist tropes against good, innocent Haitian immigrants.
When Kamala Harris trounces Trump on November 5th, our job is not done, because we have de-facto Jim Crow in places like Texas, Alabama and Florida.
Reagan started his campaign in Philadelphia.
Not the Philadelphia of Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was signed, where the liberating philosophy of all human beings are equal with inalienable rights.
No. Not THAT Philadelphia.
Rather, in Philadelphia where white-supremacists had killed three civil rights leaders in the '60s, forcing FBI Agents, as I vividly remember as a then current-event, to walk in their dress suits and shoes through the wetlands and lake to comb for the bodies and even the car of the murdered victims.
THAT is where Reagan started his campaign.
And it developed from there to racial baiting about the "Welfare Queen."
And the enabling of management and slow dismantling of unions.
It began with Reagan.
We need conservatives of the stripe of Milton Friedman and Friedrich Hayek, economists who recognize social welfare but who urge free market and fiscal restraint.
I fundamentally disagree with them, but we need two responsible parties for The People.
Unfortunately, there is only ONE Party that now represents traditional values of humanity and ordered liberty: The Democrats.
The lock-step behind the Orange-Racist is predictable from the Lee-Atwood school of vicious politics.
You write so very well, Lorraine, and I LOVE your work.
Thank you for today's post. Your message is important, and I for one feel the need to share!
Of course, Reagan started with the Southern Baptist Convention that had been working for years on their racist agenda to install him.
But I didn't know that about where he launched his campaign in Philly. That's sickening.
And trickle-down economics is a long disproved radical departure from actual tried-and-true Keynesian Economics. That right-wing "fiscally conservative" lie needs to be put to death forever.
Thank you for putting a very fine point on the history we’ve been living for the last 45 years or so. I was here for it all and remember the events you mention as well as the social changes you reference. And while I can honestly say that I was not understanding everything that was happening, but rather that I had a deep knowing that we were in an existential crisis in our country which penetrated into our hearts and minds.
It’s very helpful to read your post, remember and then know that my perception was accurate and shared by others.
In this way, what you share here feels like good news to me.
Oh, God willing, ALL, Vote Blue. I didn't watch last night but I did listen to the discussions later. I am not one to add much to this political climate, so I won't. I am going to leave it up to the experts like you Lorraine.
I'm with you Samantha. After trying to watch for 5 minutes, Vance's face and voice were just as cringey as tRump's and I had no desire to see or hear him. So I turned it off and read the live feedback from experts instead. But even then I had to put up with stupid takes from "experts" that Vance was "smooth" or whatever. IMO, he was unconvincing and slimy, and he completely tanked.
Funny you should say that. I find him very annoying, and I don't know what it is. Maybe it's his eyes. His voice. I just don't like to see him. He creeps me out! I do like Walsh very much. There's a gentleness there.
Absolutely, Alicia. Walz embraced his jitters and powered through it like a champ. That's because he's genuine and works from honesty. It was so impressive to see him respond off the cuff so beautifully!
Perhaps you made a typo, if I may, the new VP candidate’s name is spelled Walz. If the name Walsh is on your ballot where you live, someone screwed up.
Ms E great article to compliment the accompaniment and timing of the release of Smith's charges by Judge Chutkan. We should all be thankful Pence and not Vance was VP in 2000. Could you imagine? Keep up the great work!
The way Israel is ignoring all Biden’s efforts for a ceasefire is bad. I think Netanyahu wants Trump in the White House. There’s always a group of voters who will back what they perceive to be a ‘strongman’ candidate; even if their perception is wrong.
“The GOP has turned into a gigantic freak show”. Truer would have never been spoken. The gullible zombies who continue to support Dump think they’re supporting a Republican when he’s in reality a domestic terrorist.
They really do. I refuse to believe that the majority of Americans want to live in an authoritarian state. I cant lie and say I'm not afraid for the future, though. Loved your piece ... I missed everything yesterday and today... finally catching up. 💙💙✌️
Lorraine and Kiwi know what they are talking about so i listen to no one else. I rest more comfortably that way. You should try it. Forget the politicians. They are only in it for the money.
Wow. That Kompromat tic tock was something else. "Unconvincing and slimy." Yup. Did you see Rachel bring up how JDV's eyes darted like a chipmunks? Or some rodent's eyes. Can't find the link. Funny!!! I had noticed that, like JDV is keeping score with that eye move. So dang glad you write this up and share it here!!!
I’m an expat down in Panamá and wasn’t sure how I could vote so I called my local Bd of Elections and they explained how I could vote from there using my old address. Since I’m down here, it’s obvious I have a passport so ID wasn’t an issue. I got my ballot via email, filled it out and returned it via email. The disaster that hit my former residence closed the office one day but they were back up and open ready to tabulate my ballot. As for the rest of the state, it will really be a challenge to get to people so they can vote. I’ve never witnessed such disaster. They’ll be finding bodies or remains for months. Everything is gone. Everything.
Oh I thought Meta started shutting down political ads? I don't see much on there but I have very tightly vetted and high security settings on my Facebook pages.
Carville is kookie and a refreshing change. He is not offensive to me even though he swears like a who knows what driver. I find him more likeable than other politicians because he's thrown vanity to the side. He's unique in the field.

Great elaboration, Armand!

Hear, hear!
Thank you for your accurate history and reminders.

It's all connected Mary! I love how Armand and you and other readers always help connect the dots.
Perfectly said!

And he lies so smoothly--he is much more dangerous than Trump.
Funny you should say that. I find him very annoying, and I don't know what it is. Maybe it's his eyes. His voice. I just don't like to see him. He creeps me out! I do like Walsh very much. There's a gentleness there.
I saw this comment on a YouTube video and this about sums it up -- youtube.com/@deanfiora4227
Tim Walz is the neighbor who mows your lawn when you break your leg. JD Vance is the neighbor who complains to the HOA that your grass is too tall.
Absolutely, Alicia. Walz embraced his jitters and powered through it like a champ. That's because he's genuine and works from honesty. It was so impressive to see him respond off the cuff so beautifully!
and to do so well IN SPITE OF being nervous. All told, he did magnificently!
It was endearing 🥰
His face is subliminal messaging…
Perhaps you made a typo, if I may, the new VP candidate’s name is spelled Walz. If the name Walsh is on your ballot where you live, someone screwed up.
Yes I think Samantha meant Walz.
Bingo. And it really came across Peter!
100 percent!
I think I now know why Trump picked Vance. He likes to get closer to those who are close to those who have the big bucks, doesn’t he?
I wonder if he picked him or if Vance was “fed” to him through his stupid sons.
Something to thing about.
If you recall, tRump's criminal evil spawn pretty much forced him to pick Vance on Peter Thiel's orders. He was installed by right wing tech bros.

Tanked or high?
🤣
I just love chatting. Tee Hee
Me too!
And please pray for Americans that we all stay well and safe on November 5th.
And please pray for all Americans that we stay well and safe on November 5th.
Amen.
And now his bible??? Only the suckers are going for this one. PAAALEEESE.

Right, Tom? Judge C released the damning brief. Wow!!!
Thank you!
Oh so true my friend. Vote vote vote
💪🏻🌊💪🏻🌊💪🏻🌊💪🏻🌊💪🏻🌊💪🏻🌊💪🏻🌊💪🏻🌊💙
The way Trump’s mind is going, how long can he cope with the job if elected?
Vote Trump, get Vance is an even more terrifying prospect. 😱
He won't. They will never get near the WH.
🙏🏼
I sincerely hope you’re right.
The way Israel is ignoring all Biden’s efforts for a ceasefire is bad. I think Netanyahu wants Trump in the White House. There’s always a group of voters who will back what they perceive to be a ‘strongman’ candidate; even if their perception is wrong.
Glad you're back and safe, Lorraine.
It's wonderful to be back, thank you!🥰
*hugs*
“The GOP has turned into a gigantic freak show”. Truer would have never been spoken. The gullible zombies who continue to support Dump think they’re supporting a Republican when he’s in reality a domestic terrorist.
They just keep pushing the limits of their weirdness. Total amateur hour too. What a combination. They deserve whatever misery befalls them.

Awww!😻
I meant to add Rick Wilson as well. I really like him.
He's okay. I still don't trust Republicans who refuse to switch parties. I don't even respect independents. But he does make a lot of good points.
Wow. That Kompromat tic tock was something else. "Unconvincing and slimy." Yup. Did you see Rachel bring up how JDV's eyes darted like a chipmunks? Or some rodent's eyes. Can't find the link. Ha ha ha!! I LOVE the drama chipmunk, Lisa, that was PERFECTION!
Oh, and Curtis Yarvin .... https://www.advocate.com/election/jd-vance-dictator-endorsement. Creeeeeeepy
Already voted all blue and before the flood, thank goodness! I hope it’s enough to finally see him get everything that’s coming his way.
That's amazing SPW!
Here in Cali so far I've only received my sample ballot. I wonder why you get yours sooner?
I’m an expat down in Panamá and wasn’t sure how I could vote so I called my local Bd of Elections and they explained how I could vote from there using my old address. Wow! You're a champ and my hero!
Why does Facebook like Trump more than the truth?
Oh I thought Meta started shutting down political ads? I don't see much on there but I have very tightly vetted and high security settings on my Facebook pages.
They wouldn't post something of mine. Go figure. Kiwi knows all about this incident.
They wouldn't post something of mine. Go figure. Kiwi knows all about this incident.
Thanks for correcting me. I thought so. Knew it was initials, smarty pants.
I know he's strange, but he is intelligent, and you don't have to sleep with him.
Doesn't matter. I'm still wondering when people are going to get it and when are they going to learn that Trump will be wrong as a President.
81 million fired his ass in 2020, it will be 87 million in 2024!
I still remember the poor gullible souls who followed Jim Jones. His people are of the same ilk, aren't they?
It appears the stupid gets stupider, and the rich get richer with this schmuck.
Was it WC Fields who said, "There's a sucker born every minute?" I have to check.
A wise man. But I think it was PT Barnam?
Carville is kookie and a refreshing change. He is not offensive to me even though he swears like a who knows what driver. I find him more likeable than other politicians because he's thrown vanity to the side. He's unique in the field.
Plus, he grew up dirt poor and made it on his own without daddy's help...
That's cool. I'm from same background as him and probably have a way worse potty mouth so I'll give him some credit there 😆
Plus, you were from Chicago, and you seemed to tolerate me!
I thank you again,
