Men do not listen well! Well said about our current political dynamic.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Ha ha ha!! It's so funny how my hubby won't listen if it comes from me. Lucky for him he did listen when I told him to buy Apple stock over 10 years ago though 🤣

Jim Sanders's avatar

I do not like generalizations. I listen better than I am listened to and most of the people I communicate with are female—just probability as men are more likely to be Repugnants.

I was one of those frustrated by the punchless Dems. One does not need to be a cowardly bully like the Repugnants are but that does not mean quietly absorbing feckless body blows from these mindless cowards.

I’m excited and no longer considering rejoining the no-party independents.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Yes I remember you were one of those frustrated with the messaging Jim! You were right. This is really powerful stuff!

Yay, happy you're staying!

Jim Sanders's avatar

Thank you. However, being “right” is not what it is about.

SPW's avatar

You’ve got that right! That’s because a lot of their thinking goes on in that brain between their legs. Sometimes it just takes a little age to begin to let the upper brain to kick in.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Ha! Maybe that's the only way he sees me, SPW. Grrr. But over all, he has a big heart and listens, even though he will rarely admit it.

The great book SEXUAL SECRETS talks about the fight or war-like game that goes on between lovers. If we're just with someone in a compassionate cool and calm way or in a hot torrid exciting way... especially living full time, affects heads and hearts completely differently.

Jim Sanders's avatar

I listen better than most others, not because I’m some superior Mench of a person. I listen better because of 25 years of giving depositions and testifying in court as a—so-called—expert witness. I have been trained.

However, go watch people interact. It is my experience that they constantly talk over each other or look very impatient waiting for the other person to stop talking so they can talk or just bury themselves in their phones.

There is another group, the elderly couple. Here they mostly do not talk or the man never stops talking.

Of course I’m generalizing.

Why am I writing all this? Because, I wonder if much of our countries division may be because we do not listen to each other and when we talk, we rant. Again, generalizing.

Oh well, what in hell do I know? NOTHING.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Those are some keen listening skills right there Jim. Clearly tRump's base are not listening to reason. And of course, I will not listen to their insanity. But we're bridging the gap, I'm convinced of that. Thanks as always for commenting!

Jim Sanders's avatar

I do not support listening to totally crazy, unreasonable, mindless bullshit. So, I do not listen to them either. I do not support listening to those that will not listen in return.

Men still play the old tapes like ringing in the ears.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Funny. Not sure if this is what you mean, but my hubby rewatches football games even though he knows who won already. I'll never understand😆

Malcolm J McKinney's avatar

Old tapes, opinions taught to children.

I am a fan of the people of the United States. When I visited your amazing country I was impressed by the respect and tolerance I saw all around, practiced by hard working, beautiful people. I am in no way criticising those folks. I met Republicans and Democrats, and those that have opted out, and either never voted, or did not intend to again.

The entire world, in one way or another, has an interest in the US doing well. But Trump and his mob captured an audience leading up to 2016 that points to a huge number of citizens that were,(and are) sick of the same old promises being made, while their day to day lives reflected the fact that nothing had changed. And if it did, it was not for the better as far as their lives were concerned.

I’m Irish. Believe me, we get America and it’s people. To insult them would like me insulting my own, to a large extent. I hope my comment did not come across that way. I am genuine in my concern for the health of your political system. Dump has hurt my eyes and ears for far too long now. So annihilation of the dump would be fantastic. It’s what comes afterwards that concerns me. Assuming all goes well and a defeat is accepted and Harris is able to set about her business, I hope she delivers.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

I love your country too, Kevin!

When I did my 23andMe, it was a shock to see that I had zero UK, Irish, Scottish DNA and all. It made no sense. My grandmother's maiden name is Carroll for goodness sake! But I'm 100% European mostly Eastern Europe and French. Weird!

But I'm Irish at heart. I still haven't been, but planning on making that trip soon, playing golf and eating delicious seafood. For some reason I have been to Scotland and UK (a lot) but haven't made it your way yet. Can't wait!

Anyway, we will finish the job here and send them crawling back under their rocks. We will never forget what they have put us through either. I will never forgive them.

Thank you for supporting us! 💙

Kevin Maher's avatar

The American people are just so welcoming, polite, caring. I was bowled over by the hospitality I was shown. It was like a home from home.

You would love Cork. The golf courses, especially places like the old head of Kinsale and it’s surrounding town are beautiful. The food great there too!

Kevin Maher's avatar

And a Carroll but no Irish DNA?!?😂there must have been some shenanigans or skullduggery afoot amongst your ancestors!

That is weird.😂

Well put Ms

Kamala/Walz-The perfect antidote for the country's Trump fatigue.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Agreed, Tom. The mainstream media's newest fake talking point, "Trump fatigue". Meanwhile, we're fired up!

Kate Morgan Reade's avatar

Sing it, sister! We are crushing it, and the momentum is finally behind us! I am ecstatic that our candidates are hitting the bully back right in the face with his own nonsense. And I can't wait to see what Justice Merchan has to say about that sentencing date, and then what that sentence will be.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

There are several things coming down the pike leading up to November 5th, sis!

Including, there is news that there will be a cease fire and hostage exchange announced tomorrow? I'd much rather be us than them, either way. 🥰

Kate Morgan Reade's avatar

Oh I hope so! That whole situation really needs to be resolved. Netanyahu is too extreme and Hamas, well... All those innocent people on both sides stuck in the middle! Cease fire needs to start and *hold*. On another good note, I love that Ukraine is blowing the shit out of bridges! No lives lost, just taking years off of Putin's. 🤣

Sherry McGuinn's avatar

Fantastic piece, Lorraine. Joe is indeed a “wise old man.” You’d better believe I’m voting blue!

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Hooray! Thank you Sherry!💙🙏🏻

Love how you put it all together. The research you attached will take me awhile... I listened to a 24 minute YouTube "Ralph Nader's take on the US 2024 election/The Take." Absolutely fascinating. I've heard the evangelicals are turning away from their orange wizard (weird idiotic zero arrogant reprehensible doofus). Wasn't that practically MOST OF HIS BASE?

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

That means so much to me, Lisa. Did you see the granddaughter of evangelist Billy Graham, Jerushah Duford, has endorsed Kamala Harris for president, joining the group 'Evangelicals for Harris? It's amazing!

Journalisa's avatar

Thorough organizing of the important things to know at this time by someone who takes the time to collect and share it!

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Always keeping tabs and connecting the dots, Lisa!

Maybe MAGAs have a condition that some people on the autism spectrum suffer from known as

When people with Pathological Demand Avoidance are presented with an idea or request, if it comes across to them in any way as a demand, they will absolutely refuse to do it, even if it is something that they previously really wanted to do and looked forward to doing.

Once they believe that someone else or society in general wants, expects and/or requires them to do something, they will struggle to do the thing.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

That's an interesting perspective, Nina.

I'm sure I'm on the spectrum. But it's been weird to try to understand why my brother who is one year younger and raised in the same home as me, is a total MAGA.

He was always the calm stable one. But there's something indoctrinated in him where he won't open up to reason. I still adore him but it has been very hard on our relationship.

Nina Gilliam's avatar

I am also quite studied at one of my brothers, who was always the most logical of my siblings, next to myself. But now he is such a Trumper!

In addition to being logical, he also has had a bit of a paranoid streak (I think due to years of marijuana use) and a recent tendency to believe conspiracy theories, thanks to the influence of his wife.

I guess over time his logic centers were trumped (excuse the pun) by the paranoia and conspiracy theories. It's so sad.

It’s all changing for the GREAT toots!

We are, indeed, well sick of every thing Trump and, it is true, the fate of the democracy and ourselves is in our hands. What a great piece, Lorraine. Thank you for sharing posts that have paywalls. It's so good to see what everyone else is thinking and saying.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Hope you can read the links if you want to Carol. Mostly I include links as a source for my claims. But they are all very interesting reads. At least I'm making use of all the stuff I sit and read all day long, ha ha!!

And thank you as always for your support🥰

Carol L. Clark's avatar

I DID get to read them. And I thank you for your support.

Great line: Maybe God isn’t omnipotent. Maybe he’s just been around so long, he knows everything.” Trump is so old, but his life gives evidence he’s so dumb, that doesn’t apply to him! After all the evidence is if he had just invested his inheritance he’d be much richer than now!

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Yes, one of my favorite film quotes, Gordon!

That's a great point, too. There are many very unlearned souls to which this would not apply. It's not just time and experience. It's what you make of it. As you say, he could have just invested in a safe savings account and been much better off. More proof he's here to sow chaos, the devil incarnate.

Bruce Morgart's avatar

And up to now with the examples of CNN, NPR, and Nicole Wallace fact checking his speech and/or not televising it, they all,all media outlets have been complicit by providing him with free air time with televised rallies and “pressers”. That should not happen ever. They have not been televising Harris/Walz rallies in their entirety. They have been digging to find dirt on the latter. Disgusting as it is, they deserve better.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Absolutely correct, Bruce. Did you see this piece about how all the mainstream media is owned by the right? It's sickening.

"Today, the legacy media is comprised of the self-centric New York Times, owned by the Sulzberger family’s DNA failure, and the Washington Post, led by a Murdoch-trained executive editor.

Politico is now owned by a far right German tabloid owner who has a decades-long record of bending journalistic ethics for right-wing causes, and asked his executives to “pray for Donald Trump” in 2020.

When Warner Brothers Discovery CEO David Zaslav - who controls CNN - was asked who he supported for president, he wouldn’t say; but he did say that he wanted a president who would allow him to engage in more consolidation by lessening regulations - in other words a president who would do basically the opposite of what President Biden has done.

Much local media is owned by hedge-funds. A huge swath of local TV stations are owned by far right Sinclair Media. Then there’s Faux Snooze, the actual Murdoch owned media destroying this country.

These media only don’t care about democracy, they consider democracy an obstacle for them. So when they behave like they are pro-fascism, believe them."

Bruce Morgart's avatar

Did not see this particular article but have read many others that talk about the same thing. Even the good guys have gone bad.

Kevin Maher's avatar

From the outside looking in, I’m amazed that the American people have any faith left in their political system. I hope that Harris delivers, if and when she is elected. If not, and the problems facing the country remain the same, or worsen, a Donald Dump like figure will come around again. They’re are a hell of a lot of disgruntled voters that will latch on to such a figure, ( hopefully not an orange colour reminiscent of a muppet character), and will buy into the MAGA 2 campaign that would harness their disenchantment, promising jobs, walls, etc, all over again.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Fear not, Kevin. We got this. Thank goodness UK, Poland, France, Brazil, Australia, etc, have all come to their senses too. We're not the only ones who were victim to Putin's evil plan. But we were the first I think to vote out his puppet and keep the Right at bay, with the Left winning most every election since November 8, 2016. I would think you would be very impressed with us. 💙🙏🏻
