Honoring heroes, past and present.
A powerful video today had me in tears, like a release after almost eight long years of hell resisting the GOP traitors to democracy. It’s okay to take a moment to cry. Then we steady ourselves and get back to the fight.
Here’s the video, an exchange between Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and a DDay hero.
DDay Vet: “You’re the savior of the people, you bring tears to my eyes.”
Zelenskyy: “No no, you saved Europe.”
DDay Vet: “My hero.”
Zelenskyy: “No, you are our hero.”
DDay Vet: “I pray for you.”
He kisses his hand & won’t let go.
My nephew is an Army veteran who did a tour in Afghanistan, so I have a little first-hand knowledge of the the horrors of war. I’m so grateful for his bravery.
Visiting war monuments is a moving experience. There is something about hallowed Utah Beach, Normandy, that makes one feel tiny, but not insignificant.
When I visit the Washington, DC, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, I’m always overcome by a powerful pressure in my heart, then tears.
Showing gratitude for our heroes is important.
Keeping up the fight is important.
It’s hard sometimes, the Right is trying to break us.
But as I always say, WE GOT THIS. ♥️ 🤍 💙
I’m a Viet Nam Vet. I believe war is the ultimate example of human failure of reason and sanity. However, I recognize that countries need to protect their citizens as best they can from bellicose countries. I did not believe Viet Nam met this criteria as the war did not involve us until we interjected ourselves into a civil war after General DeGaul blackmailed us to protect French colonialism.
Russia is a big threat to all of Europe and Europe is integral to our security. Therefore, I loved the video and support its message.
