Hey loved you story of travel in WI and il. and discourse of politics. wish I was there. looks like the wedding was great congrats to a great lady and her new spouse.
Your photos are gorgeous! I haven’t seen a pumpkin patch in a very long time.
The GOP presence? I totally get where you're coming from and it's really disappointing to see such disrespectful displays during your travels. It's just disheartening to witness flags and slogans that undermine the dignity of the President of the United States. We should all be able to show some respect for the office and the person holding it, regardless of our personal political beliefs.
It's such a shame that some people choose to express their dissent in such disrespectful and offensive ways. It's like they completely forget about basic civility and the values that should bring us together as a nation. Instead of promoting positive change through productive dialogue, this kind of behavior only deepens the divisions among us.
Sadly, I don’t even bother with anyone who is Republican anymore.
I don’t either. I used to have Republican friends but since the emergence of hate radio, most have swallowed the Cult KoolAid and appear to be beyond reach.
Dog votes PURPLE!!! (this indie Bitch = #metoooo!!!!) --- Where is the scarecrow kit? = "how it's done" = Haaaaaa!!! Yer awsome. Way to go, walkin' the line!
I see so many beautiful images on Substack all the time and l wish l was able to heart 💜 ♥️ them specifically the fall images you took, which are so gorgeous; makes me wish l was there. It is the kind of scene that brings to mind pumpkin spice anything, but latte especially. Juxtaposed with the hateful displays however, can mar the mood and atmosphere a bit. l wish l understood why people would rather fill their days with darkness and not light. Yah can’t see shit in the dark. You stumble and fall. But the same folks hate open eyes that keep them “woke.” In away the experience is like life itself, we can find beauty in spite of the ugliness around us. It just gets so hard sometimes to drown it all out, which is why we have to face it head on sometimes…
Great point, Alicia, it would be nice if Substack had a "Like" button for photos. Also, agreed, it was so charming, then every once in a while I'd see some hateful symbols and it was chilling, even looking for escape routes in case of you know what. This is the GOP's fault. How evil.
How fascinating ! Again - the Synchronicity we may have - ‘who knows !’ (or knew !)
Love the ‘circumstance’ - reminds greatly re Steve Schmidt & his two parter here driving west from California via upper peninsula to Deluth, on to Canada with his 🇨🇦 wife a la John Steinbeck’s ‘Travels With Charlie’ in Rocinante - his camper backed Pickup Truck with the big black standard poodle !
I did the same in a bus load of Buddhist’s ! From Toronto to Madison to attend the Dalai Llama Initiation there / his 1st trip to USA.. in a vast cornfield.. Yes I was fascinated by what ‘unfolded’ (clue - ‘There Came A Great StormCloud across the Lake & Campus !)
Oldest University in North America I’m told ! ‘A seat of learning’ tis said !
Wonderful comment Thomas! I missed the Steve Schmidt piece. But your road trip with Buddhists sounds like quite an adventure and great fodder for a Substack piece!
The images of your travels through Wisconsin are beautiful! I actually live in Kenosha which is between Racine and Chicago. A lot of Trump Maga idiots around here as well! I’m actually embarrassed about it. The cop down the street with his Trump signs in his yard! My Son said to me one night “let’s go remove them” oh how tempting that was. Yup Kenosha is full of them Koolaid drinking Trump following clowns 🤡
Oh, I fully sympathize with you Doreen, living half the year in white supremacist hub Northern Idaho.
I think just a couple years ago there were some riots in Racine area?
And of course Rittenhouse. What a hot mess.
But one of the greatest recent moments was my bff (whose wedding we just went to in Lake Geneva) was there when Wisconsin went to Biden. She was yelling out her door, THANK YOU WISCONSIN!
Actually the riots were here in Kenosha!! I was mortified! Rittenhouse was in jail awaiting trial which was the biggest joke ever!! The judge was on the take obviously. Judge Schroeder another clown show. I used to feel proud that I was born and raised here but not so much anymore. Yes when Wisconsin went Biden was a moment to always remember. Then there are the other raving maga lunatics.
Oh! That Kenosha sheriff apparently resigned or something? Crazy. Coming from not far away, Chicago, it feels very close to home. For everyone who thinks Illinois is blue, not true. I've been completely alienated from many family and friends. 💔
That is sad 😔 especially losing family over politics. I’ve kept my distance from several friends whom I’ve known since high school. Yes the sheriff resigned. Nothing has been the same since the whole Trump disaster and the riots. Everything seems different here to me anyway.
It's shocking to see how vulnerable we were to Trump the Russian asset. I've blocked hundreds of hateful rabid family and childhood friends on Facebook and I have zero hope to reconcile. There are a handful that I'm able to keep minimum contact with. But it's heartbreaking. Just this weekend I skipped a family wedding because of anxiety. I HATE THE GOP for doing this to us.
It is very sad! Life has definitely changed a lot of us lefty’s that’s for sure. I never thought I would see our country and relationships with family and friends take such a turn for the worse. I hate the GOP as well!
Admittedly, I am not subtle and I asked, “So you’re okay with destroying America?” He simply replied, “I don’t talk to idiots,” and turned away. ROFLMAO!!! The Democratic booth was so clever! And what a hoot: the difference between the physical offerings between the two, representing the difference between the intellectual offerings of the two! LOVE how the lady in the rainbow sweater was "unrecognized" by the pugs! Your photos are beautiful. Make me homesick for the first 10 years of my life when we lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Oh! those Falls!
I googled DePaul University because I didn't know much about it, but this is what showed up: https://abc7chicago.com/depaul-university-chicago-robberies-lincoln-park-police-department/13824670/ Have you heard about this?! Did you live all of your life, through college, in the Chicago suburbs? My family left Michigan just after I turned 10 and moved to NC (UNC, Dad taught). WHAT A CULTURE SHOCK. 1963. Eventually, I moved to Charleston, a shocking 42 years (!) ago.
Oh no! The campus is right in the middle of the city so I guess that was always a risk. It's an awesome university. About 50% first gen college students, they really take care of their students. I'm on the Theater and Film school boards.
So cool you live in NC, beautiful state.
I grew up in Elmhurst then lived DT Chicago for college years then moved to Paris for 7 years right after graduation, and Cali ever since. Talk about culture shocks!
Paris!!! I LOVE Paris!!! What did you do there? Seven years -- ahhh... Where in CA? Always in the same place?
DePaul sounds like a great university! 50% first generation college students! That's got to be a record in the U.S., or at least very near the top.
I actually lived in Chapel Hill from ages 10-28 (college -- World History major; more college, premed -- science! my bugaboo -- but I was told, yes, literally, by my Angels that I was to go to med school, with a PhD in Chinese history being MY plan; and then med school).
I have lived in Charleston, SC for almost 42 years now!
Hey loved you story of travel in WI and il. and discourse of politics. wish I was there. looks like the wedding was great congrats to a great lady and her new spouse.
Thanks, Mom! Wish you could have been there too! See you in November!
STRESSFUL/JOYFUL/STRESSFUL/JOYFUL
Right Em? Rollercoaster ride!

Yes it was magical in Wisconsin! The corn fields and pumpkin patches.
And I agree, I was shocked by the hateful flags. Even in Florida you don't see so many.
Those flags are such a pathetic display. It makes them look weak not strong.
Indeed, bear in mind that most modern Republicans see Trump as some kind of strongman. They have no idea what strength is.
Weak cowards, all, sis!
I don’t either. I used to have Republican friends but since the emergence of hate radio, most have swallowed the Cult KoolAid and appear to be beyond reach.
Yep, I've mostly eliminated them from my immediate life. Only when absolutely necessary.
Ditto!
🥰

Which is the oldest university in N.A?

Beautiful photos, Lorraine. Love your Midwest Travelogue as well!
Thanks so much, Deb!💕

Right kdsherpa?
The dems were so engaging and positive. So much to offer. They were light but still serious about their work. It was like a rainbow in the darkness.
You're from the Midwest too?
Thanks as always for reading and commenting, homie!
Where did you grow up?
Chicago western suburbs, Elmhurst to be specific. Went to DePaul University in downtown Chicago.
I googled DePaul University because I didn't know much about it, but this is what showed up: https://abc7chicago.com/depaul-university-chicago-robberies-lincoln-park-police-department/13824670/ Have you heard about this?!
